BIG DOG PARK
ISSUE 1– LANDSCAPE FIX NEEDED: While most of the park drains fine there is 1 part near the entrance where the sidewalk floods and dogs eat the mud and roll in it. A BIG mud puddle is produced by this sidewalk not draining water. While dog owners watch horrified their dogs run over and gleefully eat the mud and sometimes roll in it before the owner can grab them.
SOLUTIONS:
STEP 1: COA Landscape Design needs to be contacted.
Solution o1? Get a company to lift it? https://www.aquaguard.net/services/concrete-lifting/solutions/sidewalk-repair/
Solution o2? Repour about 10′ of the sidewalk about 5″ higher and slanted to the north to drain the now trapped water into the extensive grass especially shown in the 2nd image.
ISSUE 2– ELECTRICAL FIX NEEDED: Three overhead security lights along the park edge. The security light in the small dog park works fine 🙂
The Freedom Barkway team is ready to assist in anyway possible!
SMALL DOG PARK
FIXED: This area is actually well designed for drainage but over the years needs maintenance to unblock grass, dirt and debris piling up at the fence edge– blocked drainage at the edge of the slanted slab at the small dog fountain area made a BIG muddy mess! (See mud photo)
The mud was formed by 2 sources: (1) FOUNTAIN WATER: the fountain was leaking water from the top because both drains in the fountain were blocked. These blocked drains would then slosh onto the concrete pad slanted towards the road. (2) RAIN WATER: mixing with dirt and grass collecting for years, forming at the fence edge a blockade to water escape onto the road.
Then the Freedom Barkway Volunteer Elves visited! The solution was 2 part:
- Dig out the dirt that had blocked water escape down the concrete pad slanted towards the street.
- Scrub up the fountain with vinegar (a mild acid) and clear the fountain drains with a plunger.
